BENEDETTO GUITARS EXPERIENCE
We took some SLMA friends on a behind-the-scenes tour of one of the world’s foremost builders of archtop jazz guitars.
March 8, 2019 // Savannah, Georgia, USA
After the 2019 Southeastern Lumber Manufacturers Association (SLMA) Spring Meeting in Savannah, team JoeScan invited some of our sawmill friends to get a closer look at the history and process of building archtop guitars.
We all learned a lot about the intersection of guitar technology and the development of jazz music. It was amazing to see the transformation of blocks of wood into intricate, hand-carved musical instruments.
We followed up the tour of Benedetto Guitars with dinner and drinks, and a live performance by Benedetto marketing manager Jackson Evans and his wife Maggie.
SMALL WORLD!
Turns out, JoeScan president Joey Nelson’s guitar teacher went to school with Jackson. What a surprise!
To close out the trip, we got to see Benedetto Master Luthier Damon Mailand perform with his honkytonk band at the Savannah Stopover Music Festival. All in all, we had a rockin good time in Savannah! We can’t wait to get back and bring more friends for the Benedetto Experience, be sure to let us know if you’d like to join in next time.
